New Sod Installation with SPMLandscape

Installing new sod is a great way to quickly establish a beautiful lawn. Here are the steps you can follow for a successful new sod installation:

  1. Soil Preparation: The first step is to prepare the soil for the new sod. Remove any existing vegetation, rocks, and debris from the area. Till the soil to a depth of about 4-6 inches to loosen it up and ensure good drainage.

  2. Grading: Once the soil is prepared, grade the area to ensure that it is level. This will help prevent water from pooling in certain areas.

  3. Fertilization: Apply a slow-release fertilizer to the soil before laying the new sod. This will provide the new grass with the nutrients it needs to grow strong roots.

  4. Sod Installation: Start by laying the sod along the longest straight edge of the lawn. Lay each piece of sod tightly against the previous one to eliminate any gaps. Stagger the joints in each row to create a brick-like pattern. Trim the edges of the sod with a knife or shears to fit around any curves or obstacles.

  5. Watering: Water the newly installed sod thoroughly, saturating the soil to a depth of about 6 inches. Keep the soil moist, but not soaked, for the first two weeks. Water the sod daily during this time, preferably early in the morning or in the evening when the sun is not as intense.

  6. Maintenance: Keep foot traffic off the new sod for the first two to three weeks to give it time to establish its roots. After that, you can mow the lawn regularly, but don't remove more than 1/3 of the grass blade at a time. Fertilize the new sod every 6-8 weeks to keep it healthy and vibrant.

By following these steps, you can ensure a successful new sod installation and enjoy a beautiful lawn for years to come.
